Lloyd Jones discussed life at United, Saturday’s win and returning to fitness this week when sitting down with local media…
On Saturday’s win over Ipswich…
“It felt amazing, it was a brilliant occasion! To have 2,000 Cambridge fans singing their heart’s out and to get them the win for them was a brilliant feeling.”
“I’m just trying to make as many memories as I possibly can, obviously I was out for a period and missed the Newcastle game, but it was brilliant on Saturday to get the three points.
“I think Sheffield Wednesday was a big wake-up call around the team, we weren’t at it and they played really well. But since then I think we’ve played really well, getting wins against Wimbledon and then Ipswich on Saturday.”
On making his return to the team following an injury lay-off…
“I was sort of finding my feet in the first few games [after the injury], trying to regain my fitness, obviously that was tough but the last three games I feel like I’ve been back to my best again.
“The Shrewsbury game I was feeling my legs from minute one! It was quite a horrible game though and the ball wasn’t in play too much, luckily, so I didn’t have to do as much running as I would normally, like on Saturday.
“It did my absolute head in, not knowing when I’d be back. I actually picked up the injury against Doncaster earlier in the season but just assumed it was due to tiredness but then we played Wimbledon the Saturday after and had to come off after 70 minutes.
“It was really frustrating, but I’m back now and hopefully in the final six games we can put in some really good performances.
“I think my biggest frustration was coming here thinking I was going to play every minute, but that’s not been able to be the case, so hopefully next season will be different.”
On life at Cambridge…
“I love it here, I’ve said it many times, as soon as I met the manager, I knew I wanted to come here, it’s a great dressing room with great character.
“I remember when I met Mark in the summer, I think he might have driven to Salisbury or something to meet me, but I was so impressed with him.
“The lads have just done so well really, Sam [Sherring] and Jubs [Okedina] have been brilliant in mine and Greg’s absence.”
On Wycombe…
“They’re a strong, physical side who are just a couple of points outside the play-offs, so they’ll obviously come to the Abbey wanting to take all three points.
