U’s Head Coach Mark Bonner faced local media this morning ahead of Cambridge United’s FA Cup First Round replay against Northampton Town…
On Saturday’s defeat:
“We have obviously come up against a really good team, and they showed their quality and strength throughout the game. We were not able to contain them, in the first half certainly, and did not do well enough against them.
“It was a good lesson, and the level of the opponent was much higher than we have been playing recently. I think MK Dons showed the quality of their squad depth with their performance levels so far this season.
“When you watch it back and look at it as a game, you can definitely take quite a lot from it, and it can be used as a good lesson for us to see how we try and continue developing to make sure that we can compete with the top teams.”
Team news:
“We think we will have the same squad as we did on Saturday that was available, we just need to check on a couple this morning. Jack [Iredale] took a few whacks on Saturday so we need to see him, and George [Williams] had his head stitched but was fine concussion-wise so he is another one we will need to check up on this morning.
“Jack [Lankester] is training today so he will be an option for tomorrow night.”
On Northampton:
“Prior to the original tie against Northampton, both teams came into the game in really good form, however, now we both go into replay off the back of disappointing results on Saturday.
“Both sides will be determined to get into the next round of the cup, so it will be an interesting game. Cup football throws up different types of games sometimes, but we will find a good level because we want to be in the next round.
“We were a threat on the day from set-pieces, so we need to make sure we are as good again. Northampton however are a good side themselves from set plays, so we know there will be elements of that in the game.”
