Shaun Grady, Chairman of the Cambridge United Board has issued the following statement with regards to the position of Chief Executive Officer...
"As a Board we wanted to let our Staff, Supporters, Sponsors and other Stakeholders know in advance and directly from the Club, that today we are starting the process to recruit the Club’s next Chief Executive Officer as the successor to Ian Mather and thought it helpful to provide a bit of background to this.
"It had always been the intention when Ian stepped down from the Board to take over as CEO in July 2019 that this be for a for a single season whilst we recruited for the longer term. We are very pleased that Ian then agreed to extend this term and lead the Club for another two years, in particular recognising the need to help us navigate the particular challenges of Covid and the need for continuity off the pitch after promotion.
"Starting the recruitment process now will allow a thorough search involving Paul Barry as our majority owner and an appropriate handover period in the Spring before Ian steps down and rejoins the Board. There will obviously be an opportunity at that point to reflect on the important contribution that Ian and the Management Team have made throughout this unprecedented period.
"In the meantime there is a lot of hard work ahead for everyone - on and off the pitch - as we look to consolidate our position in League One."
