Cambridge United's U18s successfully negotiated their way into the Second Round of the FA Youth Cup on Thursday night, after beating Southend United on penalties following a tricky tie at Roots Hall...
The young U's took the lead through McConnell's 25-yard second half strike, but were pegged back soon after from the penalty spot to take the tie into extra time.
Both sides had their chances to seal the victory during the additional 30 minutes, but the tie was to be determined from the spot. After Southend's first penalty hit the post, successful conversions from McConnell, Yearn, Braithwaite, Beckett & Tarpey saw the U's go through and into the Second Round, where they face a trip to Kinetic Corinthian-Casuals.
