Cambridge United are pleased to announce that Mark Bonner has agreed a new three year contract as Head Coach at the Club...
In his debut season at the helm, Mark Bonner guided the team to promotion to League One for the first time since the 2001-02 season, following a second placed Sky Bet League Two finish.
Bonner has become just the sixth man to lead Cambridge United to promotion in the Football League, following in the footsteps of Bill Leivers, Ron Atkinson, John Docherty, John Beck & Roy McFarland.
Paul Barry, majority owner, said, “Mark has shown himself to be an exceptional coach, a great leader across the whole Club and a fantastic ambassador for Cambridge United on and off the pitch. He would be the first to say that our success this season has been a team success - and he would be right - but his personal contribution to it in a uniquely challenging season has been huge and we are all so pleased that he will be leading the Club on the next stage of this exciting journey. He is one of our own, cares deeply about the Club and the community we serve and his new contract is very well deserved.
“I would also like to say a sincere thank you to everyone who has helped make this such a special season - my co owners, our Board, staff, players and sponsors - but particularly all our fans. We have all felt your absence deeply and we know how hard these months have been for everyone in so many different ways but at the same time we have never felt so much support from you. It has been a huge factor in what we have achieved together and we can’t wait to have you back at the Abbey watching Cambridge United playing as a League One Football Club next season.”
