Cambridge United is delighted to announce that Lewis Simper has signed a one-year extension to his current contract...
The 19-year-old central midfielder has been with the Club since the age of six, progressing through the Club’s Academy before signing his first professional contract in January 2020.
Simper made his professional debut eight months later, coming off the bench against Fulham in the EFL Trophy, and enjoyed a successful loan spell at Concord Rangers to finish off the season, scoring twice in seven games for the Club.
“I am delighted to sign a new deal at my boyhood club, Simper said. “All I know is Cambridge United so I am very pleased to be here for at least another couple of years. Being around the First Team every day last season was very positive one for me so I can’t wait to get back to it and continue my development.”
Head Coach Mark Bonner said, “We were pleased with Lewis’ end to the season with Concord Rangers in what was a tough season for all young professionals. This contract gives Lewis more time to keep developing and if he commits to his work and keeps striving to improve, he is a player who can have a bright future with us.”
The extension to Simper’s contract means his deal runs through until June 2023.
