Cambridge United is delighted to announce that James Brophy has signed with the Club…
The 26-year-old left sided player arrives at the Abbey Stadium after four seasons at Leyton Orient, where he made 159 appearances on his way to becoming a firm fans’ favourite amongst the O’s supporters.
Brophy has worked his way through the football pyramid, having started out on the non-league circuit featuring for the likes of Broadfields United and Edgware Town.
A move to Swindon Town beckoned, where he featured heavily during their 2015-16 and 2016-17 League One campaigns, before making his way to Leyton Orient.
Brophy has now decided to make the switch from the O’s to the U’s on a three-year contract with the Club.
“It was an important decision,” he said. “There were two key factors - I wanted to come back into League One and I wanted to find a place and a Gaffer that I can relate to and that I felt he had trust me in and I had trust in him.
“I am really excited now and can’t wait to get started.”
Head Coach Mark Bonner said, “We are delighted to have added James to our team as he has been a player we have admired for some time. He has experience at League One level, has played a high number of games in recent seasons and is a character we have warmed to instantly. He has always been a player who has shown his attributes against us and for Leyton Orient in recent seasons.
“We will benefit from his attacking qualities, his one-vs-one skills and his creativity. Married with an excellent work ethic and tactical understanding, we are excited by the qualities he will bring to the team.
“James, like many of our players is driven by the task of competing in the league above and showing he is capable of flourishing in the seasons ahead. I am looking forward to working with James, and helping him continue his consistent level throughout this time.”
Brophy is the Club’s second summer signing - following Tuesday’s announcement that Lloyd Jones has agreed to join the U’s - and will wear the number seven shirt for the upcoming season.
