Commentators required for Audio Description Service

The forthcoming 2021/22 season will see the Cambridge United Audio Description Service celebrate its tenth anniversary since inception and new Commentators are needed to help deliver the service...

The Cambridge United Audio Description Service broadcasts a specially-tailored commentary on every U's home game to visually impaired and partially sighted fans who listen to broadcasts via a personal receiver, meaning that they can sit or stand wherever they choose within The Abbey Stadium.

The service is free to use and available to both home and away fans. The Audio Description team operates independently from the Club and relies entirely on the efforts of a small band of dedicated volunteers, organised by Cambridge Fans United (CFU).

Following the news that a couple of long-term regular contributors have taken a step back recently, and with the likelihood of some large away followings next season, the Audio Description team are recruiting new, budding Commentators to help deliver this much-loved service next season.

No experience is necessary. All that is required is a clear, speaking voice, a love of the game and a basic knowledge of the laws. There is no minimum commitment level either - if you can only manage to commentate on a couple of games a year, you will still be a vital and valued member of the team.

In return for your efforts, you will get free entry to the match, free refreshments and the chance to rub shoulders with U’s Commentator Mark Johnson amongst others.

If you are interested - or if you know anyone with sight problems who might benefit from the AD service - please contact co-ordinator Nick Parker on 07929 589925 or nick.parker56@googlemail.com.
