Cambridge United extended their unbeaten run in Sky Bet League Two to seven games, with an assured 0-2 win away to Barrow AFC.
Goals from Paul Mullin and Joe Ironside late in either half, ensured the League leaders continued their purple patch of form, leaving Holker Street with maximum points.
The U’s were forced into one change as Paul Digby missed the encounter with a knock, and Declan Drysdale stepped in to make his United debut.
Having scored his first goal of the season in spectacular fashion a week earlier, Kyle Knoyle danced into a shooting position for the U’s first glimpse at goal but his shot from the centre of the Barrow area struck Dion Donohue and was cleared by the hosts.
Jamie Devitt was one of nine acquisitions for the home side during the January window, and he flashed a shot just past Callum Burton’s right post on 13 minutes, in Barrow’s first attempt of the match.
Wes Hoolahan’s presence in the game grew through the midway point of the half, and the Irishman flicked a delightful pass between two Barrow defenders and into the path of Harrison Dunk, who forced a smart save from Joel Dixon on 21 minutes.
Bonner’s men were made to keep their patience but it paid off three mnutes before the break, and unsurprisingly Hoolahan was the provider with an intricate assist for Paul Mullin, who complemented it with a no nonsense toe poke past Dixon to earn United the lead.
Adam May fired a well struck effort on target which the Barrow keeper did well to keep hold off meaning the U’s advantage was just one at the break.
United were close to that second goal after the break, but Joe ironside was quite able to keep his shot down at full stretch from close range, on the end of a Knoyle cross right across the face of goal in the 49th minute.
The Bluebirds had made a pair of changes at the break and had their best spell of the match through the hour mark, beginning to apply a little pressure on the U’s lead. But Bonner’s men did well to restrict the hosts to Lewis Hardcastle’s effort on goal which Burton was able to watch wide of his near post.
The U’s issued Barrow a left off on 68 minutes, when Kyle Knoyle retrieved a pass from Adam May down the right channel, pulling a cross back for Mullin on the penalty spot, who connected well first time but the effort rose narrowly over Dixon’s goal.
In truth though United managed the game and their lead expertly, and seven minutes from time added the finishing touch. A short corner routine made its way to Knoyle on the edge of the area, where the right back dinked a cross in for Joe Ironside to attack and bury in the bottom corner with his head.
