U's Head Coach Mark Bonner sat down with local media on Thursday prior to Cambridge United's clash with Rotherham United...
On Rotherham:
“It is a bit strange playing them [Rotherham] so soon having played each other last month and before the halfway point as well in the season.
“That day [the last meeting between the two sides] I thought we gave a really good account of ourselves but came up against a really powerful and aggressive team in a brilliant run of form. I think they are 20 games unbeaten at the moment.
“We know it will be a tough game, but we know we can compete with these teams and will have to give the best version of ourselves to be competitive at the weekend. I think this one is one to look forward to because last time it was a game that we learned a lot from.
“They are a good team for us to learn from in the longer term, but in the short term we have got to be competitive and try to score points off them this weekend.
Team news:
“Wes [Hoolahan] was out running on Tuesday, so we will see how he fares over the next couple of days. His performance against Rotherham last month was outstanding and he was applauded off the pitch by both sets of fans, so obviously we would like to have him available.
“We don't know how long Shilow [Tracey] will be out for, but he is not on the grass at the minute, so we are just waiting for some follow up appointments with him. It was a nasty tackle on him, and his ankle went underneath him, so we just see how that plays out over the next few days.
On the growing challenges facing COVID-19:
“We are starting to see quite a few games called off at top levels and the protocols of beginning to change, I think it is a matter of days before the EFL make a little bit more of a change around protocols at the training ground.
“We have stepped those up ourselves, limiting the amount of indoor space; limiting the time spent together in close contact. We have also got limited numbers at the minute so we need to make sure we try and keep everybody available where we can.
“I think that it is becoming widespread now across clubs a little bit more just to almost revert to a bit more of what we had in place last year, because it is good to be cautious, but I think probably sensible at the moment when you hear everything that is going on.
“We will wait to be guided a little bit, but at the same time, we have become fairly experienced in this now from the last 18 months.
