United host Burton Albion at the Abbey Stadium on Saturday 21st August and ahead of the game, we take a look at some of the talking points surrounding the fixture...
- U's looking forward to home comforts...
Following an arduous week on the road, with trips to Accrington Stanley and Plymouth Argyle, Mark Bonner says he and his squad are looking forward to a return home. “We are looking forward to getting back to the Abbey, it has been a long week on the road and we hope that the atmosphere will be as good as it was against Oxford," Bonner said.
United are unbeaten in their first two games at the Abbey this season and with the U's fans behind them, a home match is exactly what was required following two long away trips.
- Burton flying high...
It has been a sensational start to the season for the Brewers, with wins over Shrewsbury, Ipswich and Sunderland in Sky Bet League One. Despite the most recent victory against Sunderland, Manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said, “I am happy with the result tonight but the performance was not as good as against Ipswich. It was a day when we needed our goalkeeper to be in top form and he was."
Burton have continued their strong run of form from the second half of last year, which saw them escape from danger to survive comfortably last season.
- Injuries cause defensive depth problems...
Tuesday's ankle injury to United captain Greg Taylor which looks set to keep him out for a large proportion of the season has further exacerbated Cambridge's defensive depth problems. With Jubril Okedina also out, Mark Bonner may have to shuffle the pack in-order to find a solution at centre-back, with Lloyd Jones the only fit out-and-out central defender available for selection.
- Brewers trying to bring in more...
Burton's Assistant Manager, Dino Maamria has said that the Club are aiming to bring in some new signings to bolster their squad. “Hopefully, we will still have two or three new bodies coming in this week or next week,” Maamria said on Monday. “We are working very hard in the background to bring another forward in and if it happens, it happens. But if it doesn’t we have always got to find another way to win matches.”
It is yet to be known whether any new arrivals will join in-time for Saturday's match.
