The following statement has been issued on behalf of Cambridge United, its owners, board of directors and the Cambridge United Supporters Panel and Cambridge Fans United…
Cambridge United Football Club opposes the European Super League proposals that have been recently been revealed in the strongest possible terms.
It is the Club’s belief that proposals are anti-competition and anti-sport, where uncertainty of outcome is everything.
The proposals are driven by financial concern for only those at the very top of the game, with little or no regard for the fans who are the lifeblood of football and the vast majority of football clubs who serve their communities.
The financial discrepancy between the chosen six and the rest of the English Football Pyramid will only continue to grow if these plans are pushed through.
It is particularly unfortunate that these proposals are being made in the midst of a global pandemic, which has left many clubs across the country in severe financial difficulty.
The Club hopes that common sense will prevail and the proposals will be rejected soon.
