Cambridge United are delighted to announce that Stadium Manager Ian Darler and the Community Trust have been nominated for the the Living Sport Virtual Sports Awards 2020.

Ian has been nominated for "Services to Sport" and the Community Trust have been nominated for "the Matthew Warn Power of Sport" award.
As many will know, Ian Darler was awarded a British Empire Medal in the Queen's Birthday Honours list 2020. The honour was given for his services to Cambridge United Football Club and his charity work, with the Cambridge Charity Fundraisers.
Ian, the U's groundsman for 42 years, told Mark Taylor of the Cambridge Independent about the British Empire Medal: "I'm blown away. I feel really honoured, especially even more so in the current circumstances."
"Having so many friends who work within the NHS and understand what they're going through at the present time, I think they are the sort of people you feel should be getting these awards.
"I think it has made it even more valuable to me to receive something like this during the current situation - I'm staggered."

The Community Trust have been recognised for the fantastic work supporting the community throughout 2020 and the coronavirus pandemic. From making over 1,200 calls to seniors; cooking and delivering almost 2000 meals; engaging young people in free physical activity over the summer holidays and so much more, the Trust truly were "Here For U's."
The Community Trust Manager, Sam Gomarsall, said of the nomination: "I'm delighted that the team's hard work over lockdown has been recognised in this nomination. However, it's not solely the team of Trust staff which this nomination recognises, because we were overwhelmed by donations from the Cambridge United fanbase and requests to volunteer. This nomination highlights the way football clubs can be at the heart of their communities."
