Cambridge United CEO Ian Mather pens another letter to thank the supporters for their backing through iFollow, and challenges the Amber Army to reach a combined 1,800 match passes for the two Sky Bet League Two fixtures this week.
“Two weeks ago, I set our fanbase the challenge of reaching the 1,000 milestone for match passes sold for a single game, when we made the trip up to Scunthorpe. Given the supporter’s excellent track record of really backing the Club from afar over the last six months, unsurprisingly the Amber Army stood up to the challenge once more and made it to 1,021.
And in an ideal twist of marketing perfection, Mark Bonner’s team duly delivered a resounding 0-5 win, ensuring that those fans who made the effort to tune into the game were certainly not left disappointed.
Since then, it was 644 match passes for Port Vale and a whopping 795 match passes for Bolton, in addition to the 1,500 season ticket holders who could access the last two home games for free. This all means that Cambridge United supporters, much like the first team, are challenging at the top end of League Two.
I would like to thank you sincerely for that level of support so far.
It’s well-known that the revenue from iFollow isn’t close to what would be generated regularly during a pre-covid environment, however it cannot be stressed enough that in the current climate it remains a vital source of income. Therefore, your continued support on iFollow, by buying your match passes when you can, is incredibly helpful.
And that is why I’m back here writing directly to the Amber Army again, to set you another milestone to take down this week. Much like Mark Bonner, asking his side to maintain their levels and continue to strive for improvement following the early season results on the pitch; my role is to ask you as politely and respectfully as possible to reciprocate off it!
For last night’s game at Walsall, 932 of you fans, put aside all plans for the evening to get behind your side from your living rooms! Again, another fantastic effort. And let’s be honest, watching another Cambridge United away win felt a just reward.
So, with the first team facing another trip on the road to Crawley Town on Saturday, I feel it is possible for the Amber Army to reach a collective figure of 1,800 match passes for the two away games this week. Should we achieve that, the Football Club would move past the £50,000 mark for iFollow revenue generated in the first two months of the season.
To do it, once again we’ll need a combination of our loyal season ticket holders and those floating CUFC fans across the country and overseas to block out their diaries Saturday afternoon (or early hours in the morning for the Iredale family), to watch the match by purchasing a match pass.”
