John “Shaggy” Taylor, in partnership with 100 Years of Coconuts, is getting the band back together for a very special Legends Charity game on Sunday 26th April, all in aid of Simon Dobbin and his family.
The U’s leading goalscorer of the Football League era, is chucking out the invite to a whole host of former Cambridge United stars to make their way back to the Abbey and Unite for Dobbo in a one-off charity fixture.
Taylor, is working alongside 100 Years of Coconuts and CFU to deliver the event which will take place on the Sunday (K.O. 11:30am) after the final match of the 2019/20 season, giving U’s fans an exciting send off from the Abbey ahead of the summer.
Already a number of eye-catching names have confirmed that they’ll be pulling on the boots or barking the orders from the touchline once more, with the first few former players set to be revealed in the coming days!
The day will not only provide Cambridge United fans with a chance to catch a glimpse of their former favourites back on the hallowed turf of the Abbey, but also another fundraising opportunity to support the ongoing care needs of U’s supporter Simon Dobbin and his family.
Simon’s tragic story is one that is well-known among Cambridge United supporters, with the Mildenhall-based fan left brain damaged after a brutal attack in Southend five years ago, having spent the afternoon supporting the U's in a fixture at Roots Hall in March 2015.
The #United4Dobbo Legends Match is a chance for supporters, former players and the wider football family to once again come together in support of Simon, his wife Nicole and his family.
John Taylor commented: “After meeting Nicole and Simon through supporters Dave Boughtwood and Beth Boughtwood at last year’s charity game, I thought that I could help in a small way. Being able to help others who are in a less fortunate position than ourselves is something we should all endeavour to do.
“#United4Dobbo is coming and coming soon so let’s get sharing across all avenues of social media and let’s do our best to fill up the Abbey on Sunday 26th April.”
Tickets for the event will be priced at £10 for all ages, with proceeds being donated to the Dobbin family. Tickets will go on sale next Thursday (12th March) and will be available online at cufcdirect.com only.
