Cambridge United can today confirm the arrival of forward Paul Mullin on loan from Tranmere Rovers until the end of the 2019/20 season.
The 25-year old makes the switch from Prenton Park, where he has been a regular for the Whites during the first half of their League One campaign, and now brings additional depth to the U’s forward department.
Mullin has featured 56 times for Tranmere hitting the net on 12 occasions - including a pair of goals against Premier League Watford in the Emirates FA Cup tie last month which secured the League One side’s progression past the Hornets in the Third Round of the competition.
The striker began his career in the youth ranks at Liverpool and Everton before joining Huddersfield Town where he impressed at U18 and U21 level. His professional breakthrough came at the Globe Arena, where he featured over 100 times for Morecambe scoring 25 goals in three years, including a goal against the U’s on his first senior start at the Abbey back in 2014.
Since then, Mullin has also added further League Two experience to his C.V with Swindon Town, where he scored ten times during a one year stay at the County Ground in the 2017/18 season, before departing to Tranmere Rovers where he achieved promotion from League Two last term.
He arrives at the Abbey to bolster United’s attack following the absence of Sam Smith through illness, and will work alongside Harvey Knibbs, Andrew Dallas and Victor Adeboyejo. Mullin will be eligible to make his debut for the U’s for next weekend’s Sky Bet League Two trip to Newport County.
