JONES DEAL DAN AND DUSTED

Cambridge United are pleased to confirm left back Dan Jones has signed a one year contract with the Football Club.

The 32-year old completes his move to the Abbey Stadium following a successful trial period, in which he has worked under Head Coach Colin Calderwood as a member of the first team group since the opening week of pre-season training last month.

Jones adds strong pedigree to United's defensive having featured over 260 times in the Football League across his 14 year professional career to date.

He arrives as a free agent following two seasons at Meadow Lane with Notts County to bolster the U's options on the left side of the pitch ahead of the 2019/20 Sky Bet League Two season.

Happy to have committed his future to United, Jones said: "I've been here from the early stages of pre-season, and the lads have made me feel really welcome and I'm absolutely delighted to be here permanently now.

"It's felt like I have fitted in here effortlessly, both the players and the coaching staff have been excellent which is so important when you come to a new Club. I've been really impressed with both the atmosphere and the energy, which have been very positive since the first day of walking into the Club.

"I like the ground having played against Cambridge United before and then when I arrived for pre-season it was the training facilities that were what actually really impressed me most. It feels like a group that is well balanced with people who have played a lot of Football League games alongside some really exciting young talent.

"We have a tough game against Bradford City to start this season, but it's a very exciting one to look forward to and I feel confident it's a group that has the right balance for success."

Beginning his career with boyhood club Wolverhampton Wanderers where he progressed through the Academy from the age of 10 at Molineux before making 10 first team appearances, Jones' list of former club's include Northampton Town, Oldham Athletic, Sheffield Wednesday and Port Vale.

The full back brings experience of playing in the Championship, League One and League Two.

Head Coach Colin Calderwood is pleased to have made Jones a permanent member of the U's squad, he said: "I have been impressed with Dan throughout pre-season. Added to his football and physical abilities are the way he has settled in with the rest of the squad, as well as passing on some of his own experiences. He's a player with good knowledge and maturity of football at this level.

"He gives us options as a left back, left midfielder or left wingback and brings a naturally left footed balance to our team."

Head of Football Ben Strang added: "Dan showed a strong desire to join the club and has integrated into the group really well. This period of time with us has allowed the football staff the time and opportunity to assess his qualities and character and we are confident he will be a valuable addition."

Colin Calderwood's squad continues to take shape ahead of 2019/20 with Jones' arrival adding to the likes of Knoyle, Hannant, Knibbs and Burton to have all switched to the Abbey this summer.
