AMOO: “YOU CAN’T BEAT THE BUZZ OF A LATE WINNER”

David Amoo admits there is nothing to rival the high of bagging a late winner, having clinched three points for the U’s in dramatic fashion against Northampton Town on Saturday.

The winger couldn’t hide his excitement when speaking to the media post-match, and revealed the thrill of celebrating the win as a team.

He said: “Everyone is just buzzing! You can’t beat the buzz of getting a late winner, and everyone in the changing room after the game was just really happy for a great team effort.

“We had chances throughout the match, and we can’t forget that we missed that penalty in the middle of the game. So there were so many elements where we dug deep and used our character to stick together and that was the epitome of it.

“It was just a great game overall. Going behind early on and then fighting back, and then having to that again, we showed the strength of character as a team to push all the way for the win. It’s a fantastic feeling as a team.”

Whilst his last minute strike will certainly be memorable for the majority of those in attendance at the Abbey Stadium, Amoo says he’s suffered a memory blank of how the moment unfolded but was delighted to repay the support of the home faithful.

“I’ll be totally honest and say I can’t even remember the moment of the goal. I remember the ball coming across and putting it in, but I can’t remember any of the build-up or anything. It was just right place, right time.

“It was a great feeling but I can’t remember much of it. I must say though I always think we do really well when we attack that Newmarket Road End of the Stadium, we seem to pull out a late goal down that side.

“It was brilliant to give the fans that great feeling at the very end.”

Looking forward the 27-year old stresses the importance of the U’s continuing to produce the combination of good quality and dogged determination of recent weeks on a consistent basis, in order to go toe-to-toe with every side in Sky Bet League Two during the second half of the campaign.

“We have fought from behind before but I think we just need to be more consistent with it now going forward.

“There is definite quality in there as a team. We have good quality at both sides of the pitch but it’s just our consistency that has held us back. Once we get that, which we are making good steps with at the moment, we really believe we can match anyone.”
