LOAN WATCH | TOM KNOWLES ASSISTS IN ROYSTON TOWN WIN

Tom Knowles stood out on his debut appearance for Royston Town, grabbing an assist to help the Crows secure a comfortable 2-0 win over Coalville in the Evo-Stik South.

Knowles’ contribution helped to confirm a third consecutive win and clean sheet for Royston, setting up an exciting month loan for the youngster at Garden Walk. Fellow U’s loanee Joe Neal was also involved in the game, successfully coming through a good 60 minutes after recently returning from injury.

Elsewhere, Sam Goode and Sam Bennett were also in loan action together as they took on Walsham le willows for Haverhill Rovers. Both U’s youngsters enjoyed good games to help the Suffolk side hold out for a 1-0 away victory. This result, against Walsham who were third in the Thurlow Nunn heading into the fixture, saw Rovers pick up a second consecutive clean sheet to continue their good run of form with the aid of the United pairing.

Jordan Norville Williams was also on the winning side at the weekend, as the full back played his part with a bright display in a St Neots Town 1-0 victory over St Ives.

Meanwhile, forward Ben Worman made the difficult trip to Bostik League Premier runaway leaders Dorking Wanderers for Bishop’s Stortford. The Blues found themselves without the ball and had to defend for large parts of the game, and in the end were edged out 1-0.

Lee Watkins also gained a full 90 minutes under his belt but also suffered defeat for his loan club Mildenhall Town, with the young midfielder unable to help the Hall avoid a 3-0 away defeat at Coggeshall Town.

Watkin’s fellow midfielder Sam Squire also found himself on the losing side as his loan club Needham Market were defeated by Redditch. Squire came on as a substitute for the final 20 minutes of the tie and made a good impact on the game, however it was not enough to avoid a 4-1 defeat for the Marketmen.

Meanwhile, Matthew Foy was also in action in this weekend’s set of games as he represented Harlow Town who hosted Whitehawk. Three goals in 12 second half minutes for the visitors meant that Foy and the Tudors fell to a 0-3 reverse at the Harlow Arena.

Second year scholars Charlie Johnson (Yaxley) and Craig Foxall (Soham) were also involved for their respective loan clubs. Johnson and his side secured a 2-1 home victory against Berkhamsted, with the defender playing the full 90 minutes. Whereas, goalkeeper Foxall and Soham Town Rangers were on the losing side as they lost 2-0 when they played host to Maldon and Tiptree. Whilst Foxall wasn’t able to prevent the two goals from the visitors, he did make a terrific save from the penalty spot to deny the Maldon a third.

Finally, Finley Iron was recalled last week from his loan at St Neots after a recent wrist injury to U’s goalkeeper coach Kevin Pilkington, which resulted in Iron taking up a position on the first team substitute bench for Saturday’s clash against Yeovil Town.
