Jevani Brown says United must remain “solid and structured” in their performances under Head Coach Colin Calderwood to continue their run of form in Sky Bet League Two.
With the U’s looking to make it four wins from their last five home fixtures when they take on Port Vale at the Abbey on Saturday, Brown is positive at the prospect of extending the side’s run of results.
He said: “Since the new Head Coach has come in, we have picked up a real good run of form through January which has been crucial for us. It’s important to keep the momentum going and we stretch that form out for as long as we can.
“It’s good that we got the three wins on the bounce a few weeks ago and I thought that we maybe could have taken a point from Exeter (City). Regardless of that we have moved into a decent position in that if we continue to pick a few more wins we will start to really separate ourselves from the relegation zone.
“We’ve felt more structured and solid and that’s been a big improvement from the start of the season and gives us a good opportunity moving forward.”
Discussing his own role within the United side, Brown admits he’s had to take a lot on board since the arrival of Colin Calderwood in order to make the necessary improvements in his defensive game for the benefit of the team performance.
“I’ve played in a few different positions across this season and since the new Head Coach has come in I’ve played out on the left side of midfield and he has spoken me all the way through that.
“I haven’t played there loads before but he’s coaching me through all game, every game. He’s been teaching me about the awareness I need for the positions I should be in during certain times of the game.
“We’ve focussed a lot more on the defensive side. When the gaffer first came in he told me he didn’t see too many problems offensively and liked that side of my game but that he wanted to work with me on my defensive work. I hope I’m getting better at it, and I want to play my part as we get a much better structure.
“It’s been really good and I’ve enjoyed that. And overall there is a really good atmosphere around training ground at the minute and hopefully that can show in the results to come.”
