U’s winger David Amoo speaks to tomorrow’s match day programme about scoring his first goal of the season and praises the Amber Army for their support at Stevenage last weekend - Read a preview of the Carlisle United programme here!

It was Amoo’s 16th minute volley that decided the score line last Saturday afternoon for the U’s in Sky Bet League Two, and he was delighted to achieve an important milestone as he opened his tally for 2018/19 in front of goal.
He explained: “Scoring the winner was a nice moment and more than anything it was good to get off the mark for the season. The first goal is always the most important one, in terms of getting yourself up and running and starting the season right.
“Thankfully I found myself in the right place at the right time and produced a nice finish. A lot of the credit must go to Jabo (Ibehre) who didn’t stop chasing the ball down and came up with a good cross to pick me out at the back post.
“I’m really happy that I’ve managed to get past that and can concentrate on getting plenty more going forwards.”
However, Amoo confirmed the display at the Lamex was more notable for the team’s willingness to graft and secure a clean sheet.
The winger felt the game epitomised the U’s determination to put behind them a difficult period and continue to make defensive improvement as a team.
He said: “That performance and result shows just what you can get when you work as hard as you can all over the pitch. Defensively and attacking wise we were stronger than Stevenage and in the end that paid off with a good three points, which were needed and it was even better to get them against our local rivals.
“To be honest, whilst it was great to get the goal and I thought the team went forward well all game, the most satisfying aspect was the way we defended and kept the clean sheet. Defensively in the weeks leading up to it, we were under the cosh a little and conceded some goals that we know we are better than. But the response from everyone was brilliant and the lads are the back were absolutely tremendous, so it feels like a big stepping stone in the right direction.
“We want to build on that and be solid defensively as a team, because we have quality going forward and are more than capable of creating and scoring goals.”
