Cambridge United are delighted to announce this weekend’s 12th Fan, and therefore leading the U’s out at the Abbey against Grimsby Town, is Tom Wilson.
As part of the #UnitedSince1912 campaign, the 12th Fan initiative supported by Mick George, will see a Cambridge United supporter profiled on the Club website and match day programme, occupy the number 12 shirt and lead out the U's at the Abbey Stadium on every match day in 2018/19!
How long have you been supporting Cambridge United?
My dad (Nick Wilson) took me to my first game (Cambridge united versus Hereford United). I was hooked immediately. I loved the atmosphere, the shouting and being so close to the action. I love Cambridge united and I will never be able to support another team.
Who have you attended the games with during the time you have supported the club and who do you attend the games with now?
I attended games with my dad initially. When Roy McFarland was manager Cambridge were offering season tickets for £25 to under 18s so myself and 10 friends from school came to watch matches during the 95 / 96 season.
Which stands have you watched the games from? Have you always been in the same place or have you moved around the ground?
I now watch matches with my dad and my 7 year old son who is becoming a big fan of the team. We were gutted when Leon left last season as he was Freddie and my favourite player but all three of us love Gary Deegan. We love his commitment and how he won't back down against any opponent.
We have sat in various places around the main stand but we have just moved to block d behind the Director’s box. We are right on the halfway line and it's the best view of the action. We will be staying here for a long time.
Read a full interview with Tom in tomorrow’s match programme, which will be available across the ground for just £3.
Tickets for tomorrow’s game are available online, in-store and by calling 01223 566 500.
