TAYLOR ON “UNBELIEVABLE FEELING” AFTER THUNDERBOLT EQUALISER

Greg Taylor reflects with great glee on his fine equalising goal against Bury at the Abbey on Saturday, to mark his 200th league appearance in a U’s shirt in quite some fashion.

In answer to what was going through his mind as George Taft’s header back fell at his feet for the leveller five minutes from time, Taylor quickly replied: “Just get it on target!”

“I just wanted to hit it hard and get it on target, fortunately it has gone in. The feeling of it was unbelievable because it means so much.

“I’d like to add more goals to my game but honestly right now, I just want results. We dug in against the odds when we went down to ten, so it was a massive point for us.

“I didn’t know it was my 200th league appearance before the game, but that was certainly a very nice way to top it off!”

Describing the reward of earning a draw from the clash, the centre back admits that given the circumstances and the manner in which the fixture unfolded, it has provided the side with a huge boost in the arm.

“It felt like a win in all honesty!

“To get the point in the last five or ten minutes was massive for us, and I really felt like we deserved it. The fans got right behind us and they could see we were still fighting and digging in.

“We threw our bodies on the line, and were blocking all manner of things to come away with the point and that was the main thing.

“We didn’t give up and full credit to the supporters for backing us, it was a brilliant atmosphere to play in.”

Taylor now feels it is vital United deliver that dogged determination on a consistent basis, beginning with the trip to Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday evening.

“I said earlier in the week before the game that we didn’t want to carry anything forward and we remained positive.

“We have kept the atmosphere around the camp positive, we took that into the game. You can see that we have got character in the squad, and you can see that we do have a never say die attitude. That showed in the last five minutes especially.

“It’s all getting ready, with a good recovery and training right so that we are prepared to do the same again on Tuesday.”
