OLDHAM RESULT “TOUGH TO TAKE” SAYS TAFT

George Taft was honest in his assessment of Cambridge United’s defeat at Oldham Athletic on Saturday, as the U’s saw a winning position snatched away from them by the Latics.

United were made to rue missed chances in the first half and costly defensive lapses as Oldham flipped a 0-1 lead into a 3-1 loss on the U’s, and Taft admits it was a painful experience to be a part of.

He said: “With how hard we had worked and the position we had got ourselves in, we were absolutely gutted with the second half.

“It’s a tough one to take. Losing is always a tough one to take, but when we were so dominant in the first half and then the way it changed was just such a kick in the teeth.

“They (Oldham) came out all guns blazing after half time, and we made mistakes to let them back into the game, and they pounced on it to get the result they wanted.

“We’ll address what went wrong. Everyone involved will sit down and talk about it. We’re a confident team, we have been doing well in the league in the last four or five games.

“We don’t want to be weighed down by this result, we want to fightback to get the points again that moves us higher up the league.”

The centre back explains how the U’s focus remains solely on the next game and how important it is their sights are fixed forwards.

“We focus on each game as it comes. After last Sunday, we really did just put all our attentions towards Tuesday as a squad.

“After that positive result, we quickly moved our focus to Saturday. We don’t want to look back too much at any point. Of course you’ll reflect on the way we might have scored goals or the ones we have conceded.

“But we more watch the games that are coming. We know it’s all about the next game and then the game after that.”
