SUPPORTERS RAISE OVER £800 FOR ROYAL ANGLIAN BENEVOLENT CHARITY

Cambridge United are pleased to announce that Saturday’s designated match day for the Royal Anglian Benevolent Charity raised over £800, thanks to the generosity of supporters across the Abbey Stadium.

As well as a tribute to those who served in the Great War locally, with a trumpeter playing the “Last Post” pre-match which was impeccably observed by all within the ground, both Cambridge United and Luton Town supporters dug deep in their pockets to donate.

Saturday also saw the Ethos Community Hero of the Day posthumously awarded to Richard Arthur Sewell, who served in the Battle of the Somme and Ypres in the First World War and was born in Bourn.

The match ball was delivered on his behalf by Jack Entwistle (age 8) whose great grandfather Private Ernest Muggleton from Grantchester was wounded in World War I, Lily Turpin (age 4) wearing her great grandfather, Sgt Turpin's WWI medals and Finley Bagnall (age 5) whose dad David is Regimental Sergeant Major of the Cambridge OTC who served in Afghanistan.

Cambridge United would like to thank RSM David Bagnall, and also Vanessa Burkitt from Catherine Jones of Cambridge for their support in Saturday’s event.
