Cambridge United continued their strong pre-season form with a convincing 0-4 win over Royston Town at Garden Walk.
United came up against a well drilled and competitive Crows side, who for long periods of the first half kept the U’s working extremely hard in order to create chances on goal.
Emmanuel Osadebe was denied by a great one on one save midway through the first period, Barry Corr too saw an effort from a Jordan Norville-Williams cross stopped at close range.
However, United took the lead when a miscommunication between Royston’s defence and goalkeeper saw the hosts put the ball into their own net.
George Maris came close to doubling the lead before the break when the midfielder struck a left foot volley inches wide after a smart pass over the top from Paul Lewis.
Following a full outfield switch at half time United soon took the initiative in the second half, when Ade Azeez headed in his fourth goal in three pre-season games, from a curling Matt Foy cross.
Reggie Lambe continued to excite United supporters and not long after he’d thumped the ball against the underside of Royston’s crossbar, the former Carlise man did convert in front of goal, lashing a strike into the bottom left corner from 18 yards on the end of a clever tee up from Azeez.
Jevani Brown struck the woodwork too and Foy worked himself into a number of goalscoring position through the 45 minutes, however it was Lambe who had the final say when in similar fashion to his first, he laced the ball back across goal into the opposite corner with his left foot on this occasion.
Cambridge United head to Chelmsford City on Saturday (k.o. 3:00pm), with tickets available on the gate priced at £10 for an adult and £5 for a concession.
