Programme preview:
CAMBRIDGE UNITED STRIKER ADE AZEEZ IS FEELING SHARPER EVERY DAY AND CONFIDENT A FULL PRE-SEASON WILL SEE HIM HIT THE GROUND RUNNING FOR THE NEW CAMPAIGN.
The 24-year old who arrived at the U’s last summer but saw his first season blighted by injury and an opportunity to play regularly, has wasted no time this pre-season in displaying his exciting athleticism during the opening schedule of fixtures.
As well as stretching opposition with his lightening pace, Azeez has begun to tally up a few early goals for United too, netting on five occasions so far. The former Partick Thistle man feels his short term aims are clear, which is giving him focus this summer.
Azeez said: “For me personally I am loving getting the minutes that I need. Last season I didn’t really have a proper pre-season and I certainly feel that cost me when it came to the graft of the actual season.
“Last year was tough and one that I want to put behind me. So I have done a lot of work over the off season and made a lot of sacrifices to keep myself fit and now I have good focus on what I need to do which helps me a lot.
“Once I get that pre-season under my belt, I feel that my true performance levels will be available to me and I can achieve the impact that I want to make for Cambridge United. Each game that goes by I am growing in confidence and I feel sharper every single day.”
When speaking about the specific areas he is looking to improve on during the current pre-season, Azeez added: “It’s a crucial time of year for any player. Personally it sets up the foundations of my game for the season, such as your movement patterns across the pitch, your match sharpness and more than anything your confidence.
“It helps you to perform in the same way that want to going into the League season. So it’s vital.”
