STATEMENT | COLIN CALDERWOOD APPOINTED AS HEAD COACH

Colin Calderwood was today appointed as Head Coach of Cambridge United on an 18 month contract. He will be in charge of the team at Morecambe at the weekend.

Graham Daniels Director of Football said: “We are very pleased to have secured Colin as our Head Coach. The decision to appoint him was taken unanimously by the whole Board.  Colin brings a wealth of experience and a track record of success as a player, manager and coach. He is a very respected character who clearly shares the values of the Club. He has impressed us all during the process with his maturity, energy and hunger to succeed. We know that there is real talent in this squad which we will strengthen further in January. We all hope that under Colin’s leadership we can build some greater consistency to improve our current league position.

“Our thanks to Mark Bonner who took charge of the first team at a difficult point in time. He will have an important role to play working alongside Colin over the coming weeks and months.”

Ben Strang Head of Football said: “We are very grateful to all those who applied for the post. There was a lot of interest and many people gave considerable time to take part in the process. Colin is the right appointment for the Club and will take charge of the team from tomorrow. It is good news that we have clarity and certainty before the Christmas run of games. Our focus is obviously also on the January transfer window where we have already identified a number of targets. We will obviously want to discuss our current thinking with Colin over the coming days and get his input.”

Colin will take training for the first time tomorrow.

Cambridge United will be holding a press conference with Head Coach Colin Calderwood at 1:30pm on Thursday afternoon at the Abbey Stadium.
