INTRODUCING THIS WEEKEND’S 12TH FAN…ASTRID WHISKIN

As part of the #UnitedSince1912 campaign, the U's are delighted to introduce the 12th Fan initiative supported by Mick George, which will see a Cambridge United supporter profiled on the Club website and match day programme, occupy the number 12 shirt and lead out the U's at the Abbey Stadium on every match day in 2018/19!

The 23 supporters have been selected at random, having secured their season ticket ahead of the #UnitedSince1912 Early Bird deadline back in May.

The 12th Fan for tomorrow's fixture against Cheltenham Town is Astrid Whiskin.

Astrid, how did you first come to support Cambridge United?

My family have always supported Cambridge United, so it’s always been a part of us. My brother is a big fan too, as well as my mum when she was alive. So watching the games, or looking out for the result on a Saturday has always been something that family has done. Often the mood in the family depends on what the result has been, whether we have lost or won often decides what the mood between us all is like.

Who do you attend the matches with these days?

As I say my brother is a fan, so he stands in the Habbin and I come along to the games with him. But I actually sit in one of the central blocks of the Main Stand. I sit with various different people who I have got to know through coming to the games over the years. I’ve always watched the games in the Main Stand.

To be leading out the team, how proud a moment will that be for you?

I will be very proud indeed! Hopefully I’ll lead them out to a win and I can be a good omen for them. It’s also a nice chance for the people I come to the game with to cheer me out as well.

The full interview with Astrid, will be available to read in tomorrow’s match programme.

Tickets for the Sky Bet League Two match are still available online here.
