CAMBRIDGE UNITED SWOOP FOR JABO IBEHRE SIGNING

Cambridge United have completed the Club's second summer signing with experienced centre forward Jabo Ibehre arriving at the Cambs Glass Stadium on a one year deal.

The former Carlisle United man switches to the U's to bolster Head Coach Shaun Derry's attacking options ahead of the forthcoming 2017/18 Sky Bet League Two season.

Beginning his career at Leyton Orient where he spent nines year after emerging from the O's youth system, Ibehre has since amassed over 500 appearances and 123 career goals across League One and League Two to become one of the EFL's most experienced players.

Ibehre joins following the expiry of his contract at Brunton Park, where he registered 31 goals in 84 appearances for the Cumbrians.

Pleased to now be penning a contract with the U's, Jabo said: "I'm over the moon to get the move to Cambridge United over the line and I'm already looking forward to pulling on my boots and getting back into training.

"I have been really impressed by all the people I have met from the Club and when speaking to Shaun Derry there was a lot of positivity, so I want to be part of the Club's aims going forward.

"I can bring a lot of experience and I definitely still feel I have plenty of juice left in the tank.

"I love playing football and learning to get better each year, I always want to give more than I did in the previous season. Cambridge United is a great Club to do exactly that at this point in my career.

"Hopefully there will be plenty of goals and success to follow and I can't wait to get started again."

Cambridge United Head Coach Shaun Derry is thrilled to have brought Ibehre on board ahead of the new campaign.

He added: "Bringing Jabo to Cambridge United gives us a far greater goal threat going forward into the new season.

"He has the capability to score varying types of goals as well as bringing a fantastic reputation with him. His leadership qualities were something we were looking for and we are delighted that he has chosen to sign here over numerous other options this summer.

"His career to date is very impressive and we're sure that will continue at Cambridge United."

The 34-year old's list of former clubs include Southend United, Stockport County, Barnsley, MK Dons and Colchester United where he previously worked under current Cambridge United Assistant Head Coach Joe Dunne.

Head of Football Operations at Cambridge United, Ben Strang concluded: "We had identified the signing of a key centre forward as a priority in this window.

"Jabo brings a wealth of experience and a strong record, particularly over the last couple of seasons in our league. He will help the team with his game knowledge and understanding which will be hugely beneficial to the younger players in the group.

"Throughout the due diligence process and when meeting him, we were particularly impressed with his character and professionalism.

"Jabo's signing improves the balance of the squad in terms of his profile, age and experience. He brings competition for places and undoubtedly strengthens our forward options."
