MATCH PREVIEW | CREWE ALEXANDRA – AWAY
Cambridge United will be looking to bounce back from Tuesday night’s disappointing display when they travel to the Alexandra Stadium this Saturday to face Crewe Alexandra in Sky Bet League Two.
With seven games of the 2016/17 season remaining, the U’s still have their sights set on the top seven but will need to kick start a hot run of form this Saturday against Crewe if they are to begin closing the five point gap.
Shaun Derry’s men have lost just three times in their last ten games, which has included impressive wins over Barnet and Carlisle United on the road. They will hope to replicate those levels of performance this weekend despite the hindrance of a growing injury list.
Uche Ikpeazu and Josh Coulson are both currently enduring long periods on the sidelines through injuries, whilst the likes of Piero Mingoia, Scott Wharton, James Dunne, Medy Elito and Adam McGurk have all been ruled out in recent weeks through minor niggles and illness. However, United will hope to see numbers boosted slightly ahead of the trip.
As for Saturday’s hosts Crewe, David Artell’s men have strung together a three game winning streak in their previous League outings, with Carlisle United, Colchester United and Crawley Town all swept aside to nil. That return in points has lifted Alexandra into mid-table on 48 points.
Chris Dagnell has been Crewe’s most effective player in front of goal this season with 11 goals, including a brace in the 2-0 win over Colchester United two weeks ago.
Greg Taylor’s thunderbolt on the hour mark secured the U’s three points in the reverse fixture at the Cambs Glass Stadium back in December, a win which moved Shaun Derry’s side into seventh position.
That victory also extended the U’s overall head-to-head record to 11 wins, compared to Alexandra’s seven.
Tickets for the travelling Amber Army will be available on the gate at the Alexandra Stadium.
