MATCH PREVIEW | ACCRINGTON STANLEY
Cambridge United are back in Sky Bet League Two action tonight as they face Accrington Stanley at the Wham Stadium.
Having held in-form Stevenage to goalless draw at the Cambs Glass Stadium on Saturday, the U’s have a quick turnaround in fixtures as they look to extend their unbeaten run in the League to three games and move a step close to the top seven.
Shaun Derry’s men can move to within two points of the play-off positions with a victory this evening, which would certainly set up an exciting close to the 2016/17 season.
The U’s are likely to still be without Medy Elito and James Dunne for the trip to Lancashire as both continue their recoveries on the side line, however Liam O’Neil will be closer to a starting 11 place after returning to the match day squad at the weekend.
Meanwhile, the hosts will have an agenda of their own, as a win for Stanley would see them claw back towards the top half of the table.
John Coleman’s side are currently five points behind the U’s in 15th position but are enjoying a real purple patch in their season, with five draws and five wins from their previous ten outings.
Once again Billy Kee leads the line for Stanley in front of goal, having found the net on 13 occasions so far this season.
The striker levelled in the reverse fixture between the sides at the Cambs Glass Stadium, before Piero Mingoia’s late volley and Will Norris’ double penalty save sparked memorable scenes for the Amber Army as the U’s took the spoils.
However, Accrington still lead the overall head-to-head records by three wins to two.
Tickets for tonight’s Sky Bet League Two fixture are available on the gate at the Wham Stadium.
