AMOO AIMING TO IMPROVE “SHARPNESS” AND LAY THE FOUNDATIONS FOR A STRONG SEASON

David Amoo is delighted pre-season work with the U’s is underway and has laid down his targets to make as many gains possible in the lead up to the new Sky Bet League Two campaign.

Having arrived for the first day of training with his new Club on Monday before facing the dreaded yo-yo test yesterday, the winger is relishing the hard graft of pre-season to ensure he’s sharp and raring to go come August 5th at Exeter.

Amoo said: “It’s been a tough start with the early tests but I’m feeling good.  It has to be done and the hard work starts now.

“All the tests are necessary to help the sport science team to get the data they need about each player and ensure we are in the best shape possible for the start of the season.

“No matter how many pre-seasons you have had before, you always have a little apprehension about coming back because you know it is tough work but I’m actually looking forward to it.

“My aims are pretty simple, I really just want to get my fitness and match sharpness up because that sets a good foundation for the whole season.

“It’s been nice to get started.”

The 26-year old joins the U’s following two years with Partick Thistle and feels the work he puts into this pre-season will be key as he makes the adjustment from the SPL back into English Football.

He added: “It was important to recuperate properly during the close season. In Scotland there are a few more breaks during the season due to international breaks and at Christmas, but there around 50 games a season at this level which makes it a long season.

"It can be physically and emotionally draining.

“The more work you put into your fitness before the start of the season, hopefully that will then put you in better stead for the season long-term.”

The U’s return to the Cambs Glass Stadium on Saturday 15th July against Norwich City for the first home pre-season friendly. Tickets are available online here.
