MATCH REPORT | CAMBRIDGE UNITED 2 SPURS U23S 3

Cambridge United were narrowly beaten 2-3 by an impressive Tottenham Hotspurs U23s side, as U’s centre back Josh Coulson celebrated a decade at the Club in his Testimonial Match.

Coulson, who received a standing ovation upon arrival with his son Harry at the start of the game, almost gave United an early lead when a corner delivery fell to the defender’s feet, but his firm effort was blocked by the visiting defence.

Soon after Spurs took the lead, when Coulson of all people caught his man late in the 18 yard box, and Shayon Harrison made no mistake from the spot to convert the opening goal.

The young striker doubled the advantage ten minutes before the break for Wayne Burnett’s side, tapping in from close range after Tottenham had hit the U’s on the counter attack.

Luke Berry got in behind the Spurs defence shortly after half time, and finished neatly to pull a goal back for the U’s before Harrison completed his hat-trick to restore Tottenham’s two goal lead.

Coulson was replaced by youngster Harry Darling on 70 minutes and received his second ovation of the evening from the 2,188 supporters in attendance.

Second half sub Uche Ikpeazu registered in the final minute with a goal that typified his powerful playing style, barging past the last defender and lobbing the keeper to complete a 2-3 scoreline.
