MATCH REPORT | ST ALBANS 0 CAMBRIDGE UNITED 1

Cambridge United maintained their unbeaten start to pre-season friendlies with a 0-1 win against St Albans City at a rain drenched Clarence Park Stadium.

Matt Foy spurned an early opportunity in his first start of pre-season, when the young striker missed with an effort on the outside of his right boot.

The U's took the lead midway through the first half when Luke Berry powered on to a superb cross by Harrison Dunk to head in the opener.

David Amoo failed to beat the St Albans goalkeeper with a similar chance moments before half time.

Piero Mingoia tested the host's shot stopper with a low drive which skidded off the soaked turf.

Young Tom Knowles, who featured prominently in last season's FA Youth Cup run, looked lively throughout the second half on the right wing.

However, the U's needed to show their defensive grit for the remainder of the fixture, with Dimitar Mitov pulling off an excellent save in the final minute to protect United's 1-0 lead.
