CAMBRIDGE UNITED COMMUNITY TRUST SWOOP TO WIN TWO PRESTIGOUS AWARDS IN A WEEK

Cambridge United Community Trust have received the Living Sport Matthew Warn Power of Sport Award and the Community Partnership of the Year at the prestigious Scrip Awards, for the Club's role in delivering the Active Science Programme alongside Community Sponsor AstraZeneca.

In a highly successful period, the Club's charitable arm firstly received recognition for its impact to increase participation and address the needs of under-represented groups in society through sport across Cambridgeshire, with the Matthew Warn Power of Sport award.

Community Trust CEO Ben Szreter collected the Living Sport award alongside Trustee Ian Mather at Burgess Hall, St Ives at the end of November before attending the Scrip Awards six days later, which celebrate excellence across the range of activities of pharmaceutical, biotech and allied industries.

Alongside Cambridge United Community Sponsors AstraZeneca, the Active Science Programme, a fun and interactive initiative that combines science education with sport to increase years 5/6 children's enjoyment and enthusiasm for science, was awarded the Community Partnership of the Year.

Having initially been piloted in 2015/16, approximately 800 children have since participated in the Active Science programme during the 2016/17 school year and a similar number will benefit from the programme in 2017/18.

Commenting on the recent accolades, Ben Szreter said: "It has been brilliant to work with AstraZeneca to help inspire young scientists around Cambridgeshire. We were delighted to win the 2017 Scrip Award for Community Partnership of the year in partnership with AstraZeneca and hope to continue and expand our work together.

“We were also honoured to be awarded the Living Sport Matthew Warn Power of Sport award a week earlier which recognised our community impact through the medium of sport. This award recognised the brilliant contribution of all our staff and volunteers to our local community and I was humbled to be able to collect the award on their behalf.”
