£6,000 RAISED FOR DOBBIN FAMILY FROM SOUTHEND BENEFIT MATCH

Cambridge United are pleased to announce that £6,000 was raised for Simon Dobbin and his family at last month’s benefit match with Southend United at the Cambs Glass Stadium.

Football fans united in welcoming home Simon as the Cambridge United fan made an emotional return at the end of last month, as the U’s faced Southend in their final pre-season fixture.

Proceeds from the game are now to be donated towards Simon’s ongoing care needs, who alongside his wife Nicole, daughter Emily and other members of family received a standing ovation as they took to the field between a guard of honour ahead of the match.

On receiving the donation Nicole Dobbin commented: “We would like to say a massive thank you to Cambridge United for hosting the charity match, and for the way we as a family were treated.

“We all had a fantastic time, as did Simon, who loves the Club and still really enjoys watching the game.

“Also thank you to Southend United for taking part, and to both clubs for the shirts.

“Thank you to all the staff at Cambridge who made us feel so welcome and for the lovely food that was put on for us. Lastly a huge thank you to all the supporters and those that contributed towards the funds, well done everyone.

“Simon is currently having hyperbaric oxygen therapy and the funds are going towards this.”

Cambridge United would like to thank everybody who attended the fixture in order to raise the money for Simon, as well as Southend United for their involvement in the afternoon.
