MARK ROBERTS LEAVES CAMBRIDGE UNITED BY MUTUAL CONSENT

Cambridge United Football Club and centre-back Mark Roberts have parted company by mutual consent, with the Club terminating the 33-year old defender’s contract for him to pursue further first team opportunities elsewhere.

Roberts joined the U’s ahead of the 2015/16 season and has since featured 65 times, but has found regular first team appearances limited during the last nine month period.

CEO Jez George commented: “Since arriving at the Club, Mark Roberts has been an absolute professional, on and off the pitch.

“He has always conducted himself impeccably, regardless of whether he has been in or out of the team, and has the respect of all the staff and players.

“Mark is a man of the highest integrity, he has been an excellent role model for our younger players and was a real asset for the Club within our community engagement.  We empathise with his desire to play regularly and were therefore compliant to his wish to move onto other potential opportunities.

“He leaves with our best wishes and we wish him every success for the future.”
