CAMBRIDGE UNITED COMPLETE DEADLINE DAY LOAN SIGNING OF GEORGE TAFT

Cambridge United have completed a Transfer Deadline Day loan signing for Mansfield Town centre-back George Taft who returns to the U’s until January.

The 24-year old arrives at the Cambs Glass Stadium for a second spell with United having briefly teamed up with the U's on loan during the 2015/16 season, where he featured on 11 occasions in amber and black before injury cut his time short.

The defender, who began his career by progressing through the academy ranks at Leicester City, joins the Club from fellow Sky Bet League Two side Mansfield Town to give Head Coach Shaun Derry additional competition in a crucial position of the pitch.

Having contributed towards Burton Albion's promotion from League Two in 2015 and played a number of games last season for the Stags, Taft adds good experience across the back for United.

The defender’s return will also allow United youngster Harry Darling to gain valuable experience of senior football out on loan.

Taft will join in time to feature in this weekend's Sky Bet League Two clash with Colchester United at the Cambs Glass Stadium. Tickets for the fixture are available online here, in-store and by calling 01223 566 500.
