CUFC MAKES A SPLASH FOR MARIE CURIE CHARITY

Youth Team launches the Swimathon challenge at Cambridge's Abbey Leisure Complex this weekend!

Cambridge United Football Club is proudly supporting Marie Curie, the UK's leading charity for people living with a terminal illness and their families, as part of its national campaign.

A team of CUFC Youth Academy Scholars, launching the event at their local Abbey Pool, will swim a combined 60 lengths (1.5km) to help raise funds for Marie Curie, which last year cared for more than 50,000 people across the UK.

Youth Team Manager Mark Bonner said: "Cambridge United is passionate about the local community and participating in good causes such as this.

“Developing young upstanding citizens that are able to give back is an integral part of our training philosophy – we look to discover talent, drive ambition and inspire our scholars to make a positive difference."

The Swimathon, which starts on Friday 7 April ahead of CUFC's home game against Leyton Orient will see the CUFC Youth Academy dive in on Sunday 9 April, as part of the world's biggest annual fundraising swim.

Peter Sara, Community Fundraiser for Marie Curie said: "The support from Cambridge United is testament to the club's community commitment and we already have 50 people taking part in Swimathon at the Abbey Leisure Complex in Cambridge. With the backing of Cambridge United we hope more people will sign up to this or one of our 15 pools across Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire.

“The money raised will help Marie Curie provide care and support to people living with a terminal illness and their families."
