CAMBRIDGE UNITED FUTSAL SELECTED FOR NATIONAL SUPER LEAGUE NEXT SEASON

Cambridge United’s Futsal team have been accepted into the first ever FA National Super League for the 2017/18 season.

The U’s have enjoyed an impressive debut season in Super League North this year after enjoying promotion in May 2016, and have now been selected to compete alongside the country’s best sides from September.

The existing League structure, which sees the top tier of Futsal in the country split into two regional divisions, will become a single National Super League from the beginning of next season.

United’s incredible rise over the past two season has seen them make the grade, with the FA confirming their place in the top division for 2017/18.

The new league structure will also provide the opportunity for the U’s to qualify for the European Champions League.

Cambridge United Futsal Head Coach Luis Mendonca said: “It's a great achievement for everyone involved with Futsal at Cambridge United and for everyone that supports us both on and off the pitch.

“We've performed well in the top division this season following promotion last year so it's great that The FA have decided to give us the opportunity to be involved in the first ever national Super League.

“We are hoping that this will inspire youngsters at Cambridge United and within the region to come and watch the first team play and get involved in the youth set-up.

“It's all about providing the next generation of U's players the best opportunities available: play in the top division in England, play for your national team and who knows one day maybe even represent the U's in Europe!"
