MATCH REPORT: CAMBRIDGE UNITED 1 MORECAMBE 2

Two second half goals from Morecambe, saw the Shrimps come back to defeat Cambridge United 2-1 at the Cambs Glass Stadium in Sky Bet League Two.

Shaun Derry made four changes to the starting line-up, with Josh Coulson, Harrison Dunk, Ben Williamson and Adam McGurk in for the U’s.

United began the game in the ascendency, and almost took an early lead with Leon Legge volleying Piero Mingoia’s corner goalwards only for Ben Williamson to unintentionally block the effort on the line.

However, the U’s continued to press throughout the first half, with Medy Elito spurning an opening at Barry Roche’s target from 15 yards out on his right foot, after Williamson had cut the ball back to the former Newport man.

Morecambe’s only real opening came ten minutes from the break, when right winger Paul Mullin fizzed a dangerous cross into the U’s 18 yard box which deflected off the chest of Legge and on to the roof of Will Norris’ net.

Shaun Derry’s men seized their chance to break the deadlock soon after, as Ben Williamson wrestled his way into the Morecambe box before the ball ricocheted back for Mingoia to hammer in the opener from 12 yards out.

Morecambe levelled the scores from the penalty spot on the hour mark, with Jack Dunn picking himself up from a challenge with Luke Berry to send Will Norris the wrong way and side foot in the equaliser.

The Shrimps quickly reversed the scoreline, as Dunn broke away following a U’s corner before sending Paul Mullin through one-on-one to finish neatly past Norris two minutes later.

Medy Elito bobbled a shot wide for the U’s on 71 minutes from the angle after a clever head down by Adam McGurk. Substitute Uche Ikpeazu tested Roche with ten minutes to play, but the veteran keeper stopped the attempt low to his right.
