MATCH PREVIEW: NEWPORT COUNTY

Cambridge United travel to Rodney Parade to face Newport County in Sky Bet League Two tomorrow afternoon, keen to pick up three points that would lift themselves up the division.

Despite a positive first half display last Saturday at the Cambs Glass Stadium, in which Piero Mingoia scored his third goal of the campaign for the U’s, Morecambe fought back to flip the score line and leave United still searching for their first League win.

The U’s can take confidence from a 1-0 away victory late last season in South Wales, which completed the League double over the Exiles.

James Dunne scored the only goal on that day, but United will be without the midfielder for this weekend’s encounter, as he continues his recovery from the ankle injury he sustained at Mansfield earlier this month.

The hosts are also without a win in their last six fixtures, and the U’s lead the head-to-head records by four wins to two.

Looking ahead to the clash, Cambridge United Manager Shaun Derry commented: “We can’t affect anything that has happened up to now and we have a game this weekend, which gives us an opportunity to take three points.

“We’re up against a team in Newport who will be looking for the same outcome, so it will be difficult. But once again we have to take what we’ve trained on this week and back that up with a performance that is good enough to get the result.”

Tickets will be available on the gate at Rodney Parade for the Amber Army travelling to South Wales on Saturday.
