LEON LEGGE TRIGGERS CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH THE U'S UNTIL JUNE 2018
Cambridge United are delighted to announce that club captain Leon Legge has triggered an extension in his contract that keeps him at the Cambs Glass Stadium until June 2018.
The centre back joined United in the summer of 2015 and is currently in his second campaign wearing the amber and black. During that time he has become a favourite with the Amber Army, who will now be able to enjoy his commanding playing style for an extended spell.
Following an impressive first term with the club, the defender received a plethora of end of season awards in May, including the Cambridge United Player of the Season accolade as voted for by Cambridge United supporters.
The 31-year old has amassed 59 appearances so far for the U's and has also netted on six occasions, whilst his vast experience also earned him the captain's armband earlier this season.
Delighted to have triggered the additional year in his contract, Legge said: "I'm really pleased to have been able to extend my time here, because I have settled in quickly and love playing my football at Cambridge United.
"Although I have only been at the club for a year and a half, I feel like I've been here for four or five years. My family have settled well in the city too, so we are all enjoying life in Cambridge.
"My aims remain on achieving team accolades at this club. Every footballer wants to win and having previously won promotion at another club, I would love the chance to do the same thing here."
Meanwhile Cambridge United Manager Shaun Derry is also pleased Legge has extended his spell with the club and commented: "We are all delighted that Leon has activated a part of his contract that allows him to represent Cambridge United for a longer period.
"He is a big game player and a great character for us. He has a good knowledge of this level and understands his roles and responsibilities.
"Leon's consistent performances over the past year have earned him a hard core following of supporters, who like to see him play the 'Leon Legge' way. He is an extremely reliable individual both on and off the pitch."
