CLARK PLEASED TO SEE YOUNGSTERS MAKING U’S DEBUTS
Cambridge United loanee Max Clark says it’s always nice to play alongside youngsters taking their first steps in the professional game, such as Matthew Foy, Harry Darling and Leon Davies yesterday night.
Both Foy and Darling were introduced to proceedings in the U’s Checkatrade Trophy clash against Scunthorpe United by Manager Shaun Derry for their respective senior debuts, whilst Leon Davies also added his third appearance in the competition.
Clark commented: “I’m really delighted for the three young lads who were involved as well because they came on and showed what they were all about.
“It is a real positive for the club because they all handled the step up brilliantly. It’s always good to see young lads on the pitch and to play alongside them.
“They came on, were confident and got themselves stuck into the game straight away which is all you can ask from them.”
Meanwhile discussing the game in which United put up a strong fight against their League One opponents, who took the spoils with a 2-0 win, Clark added: “It’s never nice to lose but I thought there were a lot of positives from the game.
“In a lot of areas we passed the ball well and at times we defended well too against a strong side from the League above. We obviously knew that we had already qualified but we still wanted to get the win.
“We played a different formation in the second half, which I felt everyone adapted to well and we were the better team in the second half. It was also good to see a few of the lads who have not had a lot of game time get important minutes.”
Clark’s energetic display in central midfield saw him receive the Vindis Man of the Match on the night and discussing his recent form, he said: “I feel like I still need to tidy up every now and again but I’m really happy to be involved with the team.
“My aim is to add what I can to my game, I don’t want to just be a holding centre midfielder I want to be a more accomplished player.
“I’m working hard and really enjoying my football. I’m loving playing for Cambridge United.”
