CAMBRIDGE UNITED SIGN UCHE IKPEAZU ON EXTENDED CONTRACT
Cambridge United have secured the future of Uche Ikpeazu by signing the striker on a extended deal until the end of the 2017/18 season.
The 21-year old initially joined the U's in the summer on a short-term contract, and has impressed in a number of powerful performances during the opening months of United's 2016/17 campaign.
Standing at 6 foot 3 inches tall, Ikpeazu's robust playing style has made him popular with the Amber Army. The striker scored his debut goal in the win over Newport County in September, whilst he also registered in United's Checkatrade Trophy victory against Middlesbrough.
Delighted to have secured the services of the big centre forward for an extended period, Cambridge United Manager Shaun Derry commented: "The news is a big lift for everybody but obviously for Uche in particular who has made a good impact since being here.
"Due to the timing of when he arrived at the club so late into our pre-season schedule, he has had to catch up on his fitness, but he has done so rapidly and now occupies the centre forward shirt for the club.
"Uche still has the potential to improve, so it's important we make sure his development continues. He has to get more goals into his game again, and his record in the past has proven he is capable of doing that at this level and higher.
"In the times that he has pulled on the shirt for Cambridge United so far he's performed well and we're looking forward to helping him during the next stage of his career."
Cambridge United supporters can watch Uche in action once more in this afternoon's fixture with Dover Athletic at the Cambs Glass Stadium, with tickets available from the ticket office right up to kick off.
