“WE HAVE SO MUCH TO BE PROUD ABOUT” SAYS DERRY

POST-MATCH: SHAUN DERRY

Cambridge United Manager Shaun Derry feels the U’s have made marked improvements across the course of the 2015/16 Sky Bet League Two season.

Following the conclusion of the campaign with a scoreless draw against Mansfield Town on Saturday afternoon, the U’s boss reflected with pride at the progression made by his side.

He said: “We have so much to be proud of this year. There really has been so many positives to take into account from the start of the season to now.

“That doesn’t just go for the results but the performances as well, the players have truly represented the badge. The fans have been superb at home and away where they have travelled in numbers, which means that we as the team have experienced everything to do with being a proper football club over the last five months.

“We certainly won’t be judged on Saturday’s performance and the positive we take from it is that we go into the close season eight games unbeaten.

“It was another clean sheet for Will [Norris] and the back four in front of him and it was cagey affair where neither side wanted to be hit for four or five goals. We didn’t give up the ghost at a stage of the season where there wasn’t too much to play for.”

He added: “The key part now is for us to have that recuperation period and we’ll be insistent that everybody takes their time away to relax.

“It will be a tough pre-season which we’ll use to set us up for a big season coming up next year.”

The Amber Army can now secure their place for the 2016/17 season by purchasing a season ticket here.
