INTERVIEW: SHAUN DERRY
Cambridge United Manager Shaun Derry is adamant his side will still put up their best fight against Mansfield Town in the final game of the 2015/16 season.
Despite not being able to finish in the top seven, the U’s boss feels there is still a lot of pride resting on the performance at the One Call Stadium as they bid to finish in 8th position and see off the season in style.
He said: “The message on the training field this week has been that we need to approach the game with Mansfield on Saturday in absolutely the same way as we have for every other game this season.
“We still have 95 minutes of football left to play and the season has certainly not ended yet. We want to finish as high in the League as we possibly can and so do Mansfield.
“Obviously there are no permutations resting on the game, so the only objective on Saturday will be to put in a performance that everybody can be proud of. But that is enough and will drive us on.
“The squad has been consistent in terms of personnel involved and that won’t change because it’s the last day of the season. We’ll be putting out the strongest side possible.”
Finally discussing the successful evening for the club’s Under 16s at the Abbey Stadium on Thursday night, which saw them defeat Chelsea 2-1, Derry added: “It was a great night and I have really enjoyed the games at the Abbey Stadium against Liverpool and Chelsea.
“It certainly whets the appetite for supporters who can look forward to potentially watching these players represent the club at first team level in three or four years’ time.”
