MATCH PREVIEW: NORTHAMPTON TOWN VS CAMBRIDGE UNITED

PREVIEW: Northampton Town

Cambridge United travel to the Sixfields Stadium on Saturday for an exciting Sky Bet League Two clash with League leaders Northampton Town.

A 1-0 defeat to Exeter City last weekend means that Shaun Derry’s side will be desperate to re-ignite their play-off push, with the U’s sat three points off the top seven.

A repeat of the result against the Cobblers at the Abbey Stadium earlier in the season would certainly be a welcome one for the travelling Amber Army, after goals from Harrison Dunk and Barry Corr gave Cambridge a 2-1 win.

A knee injury picked up in a reserve game with Gillingham on Tuesday looks to have ruled out Ryan Donaldson for the fixture, with the midfielder joining Conor Newton, Barry Corr and Greg Taylor on the U’s injury list.

Meanwhile, tomorrow’s hosts Northampton certainly pose a daunting task for United, having not lost in the League since 19th December against Portsmouth and sat 13 points clear at the top of the table.

A comprehensive 4-1 thumping of Carlisle United away from home last Saturday indicated that Chris Wilder’s side are showing no signs of letting their dominance over the division slip during the closing games of the season.

Three points for the U’s would draw them level on the overall head-to-head record between the sides, with the Cobblers leading by 14 wins to 13.

U’s boss Shaun Derry is optimistic of his side’s chances in Northamptonshire and commented: “We don’t want to travel to Northampton to make up the numbers.

“They have had a fantastic season and shown great consistency, but we have our own agenda to look after. We are three points off the top seven with plenty to play for between now and the end of the season.

“It is imperative we get it absolutely right and we’re looking forward to the next 33 points that are available.”
