PRE-SEASON MATCH REPORT: SG WATTENSCHEID 09 3 CAMBRIDGE UNITED 3

Cambridge United completed their pre-season tour of Holland and Germany with a 3-3 draw against SG Wattenscheid 09.

The U’s fought back from a 2-1 half time deficit to continue their unbeaten start to pre-season, with George Maris, Luke Berry and Joe Pigott all on the scoresheet for the second consecutive fixture.

The hosts took an early lead before George Maris was on the end of Ben Williamson’s knock down and crashed a shot off the underside of the cross bar and into the net on seven minutes to level.

However, Shaun Derry’s men were behind once more midway through the half and although Williamson had a header cleared off the line following a well-placed crossed by Piero Mingoia, the U’s were unable to equalise before the break.

Captain Luke Berry wasted no time in the second half though, as he finished off a fantastic flowing move from the men in amber and black, with Max Clark and Mingoia heavily involved in the build-up, to make it 2-2.

U’s Boss Derry, made a full change to his side on 60 minutes with Joe Pigott making an instant impact, scoring two minutes later when he sprung the offside trap and finished right footed to give the U’s the lead for the first time in the match.

SG Wattenscheid 09 equalised from a free kick in the final foray of note with 16 minutes remaining.
